If there is one thing to know about me, it's that I love a good story. The moment I could comprehend language, I had a book and coloring crayon in my hand, ready to learn just about anything I could. From fantasy books to modern business, I am the happiest when learning about someone's experiences.

While attending Oregon State University, I decided to follow a sort of DIY degree that allowed me to choose the classes and subjects I wanted to focus on; Liberal Studies. I wrote an essay and degree plan for my university that outlined a variety of writing, literature, and social studies classes, which was then approved by a board of advisors. I also took business, history, and ecology classes which allowed me to satisfy my curiosities and find out my interests while entering the work force.

For a long time, I was not sure how to use my love for story-telling in my career. That is, until I began my first marketing position at Newswatch 12 during my third year at OSU.  I filled many shoes during my role as a Marketing Assistant Lead. Beginning with general sales support, I began by learning the TV world; generating leads, managing contracts, applying copy to TV commercials, and learning terms such as SEO, CTR, and CPC. I quickly became an expert in using OSI, even showing account executives new tips and tricks.  After becoming Marketing Assistant Lead, I also began training new marketing assistants, supporting our transition to Wide Orbit, and going to client meetings.

But it was when I entered the world of Digital Marketing that I felt I truly found my footing. Our Digital Sales Manager took me under her wing, and I learned how ads are placed in Google Ad Manager, YouTube, streaming services, and how a websites design and verbiage can change the way it appears in a search engine. I also managed local projects, creating graphics and email campaigns for deal cards and contests the news station promoted, and delegated tasks to the other Marketing Assistants.

My experiences since then have supported and solidified the confidence I have in marketing, writing, communication, and working in high-stress environments. I have learned how (and when) to recommend products, how to make a hard sale, and the best ways to handle a difficult situation.

What I have found is that marketing — meeting with a client, finding out their needs, and finding products and campaigns to match — is very much like telling a story. What I enjoy the most in this tale, is that you get to see the results in real-time. Seeing a customer or a business flourish because of the products you recommend is what brings me the most joy in any of the work that I have done. It is what I have found I want to continue doing with my life.
